KIT Hesketh Harvey is wallowing in his morning bath and having slightly impure thoughts about Kirstie Allsop. "Ahh Kirstie," he moans. " I absolutely love her. She makes me jibber with lust."

At this point I should point out that our conversation was conducted by phone. I did not, as my editor has suggested, make him sit at the end with the taps.

Hesketh Harvey (pictured left above) is one half of the esteemed cabaret duo Kit and the Widow who play Bournemouth Pavilion on Friday, August 5. And this is where the aforementioned Miss Allsop - TV property pundit turned upper crust pin-up - comes in.

It seems that she, along with John Prescott, David Blunkett and Peter Mandelson, get an honourable mention in Kit and the Widow's latest stage act. Their particular brand of musical comedy, delivered in magnificently old fashioned Flanders and Swann style, has been packing in the audiences for more than 20 years now.

The duo first found their comedy feet when they were at Cambridge. A young Stephen Fry gave them their first engagement and, as Hesketh Harvey observes, "We've been at it ever since. The longevity of it has been remarkable."

Kit and the Widow, who’ll be back at the Pavilion later this year with American comedian Joan Rivers, play The End of the Week Show at the Pavilion Theatre in Bournemouth on August 5.
